• Sow Seeds & Soil Preparation: Plant basil seeds 1/8 inch deep in well-draining soil or seed-starting mix; sow indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost or directly outdoors when soil is warm.
• Water & Cover: Mist soil gently to keep moist without waterlogging; cover with plastic wrap or a humidity dome until seeds germinate (usually in 5-10 days).
• Warmth & Light: Keep seeds at 70-85°F (21-29°C) for best germination; once sprouted, provide 6-8 hours of sunlight or grow light daily.
• Thinning & Transplanting: Thin seedlings to prevent overcrowding; transplant when they are 3-4 inches tall, spacing plants 10-12 inches apart in a sunny spot.
• Water & Harvest: Water regularly, keeping soil moist but not soaked; pinch leaves and flower buds regularly to encourage bushier growth and prolong harvest.
